Mammoth blasts of guitar straight from the otherside set to rock The Epstein Theatre.

Remember when The Music were duel headliners with The Coral back in the mid 2000s?

Those were exciting days; a freakbeat Liverpool collective mixing it with a Leeds' outfit melding the power and blues of Zeppelin and the energy of early breakbeat.

Getintothis remembers them tearing a huge hole into Leicester's Princess Charlotte followed by an even stronger show at Liverpool's Academy while the Coral beguiled with their mystical coastal guile. Great days...

Which brings us to Sankofa - a Liverpool collective in their infancy with a bombast which recalls that Leeds lot who burned so brightly.

Led by Joel Whitehead's cavernous squall they're one of a handful of Liverpool bands making the guitar sound vital again.

Stephen Wall's towering vocal can't help but recall Robert Harvey's lung blasts while the rhythmic unit of Michael Robinson (bass) and Josh Perry (drums) provides the impressive under carriage of a band who probably come into their own on the stage.

Luckily, you'll be able to catch them soon when they feature alongside Mark Frith and Edgar Summertyme at Eighties Vinyl Records launch on Saturday October 27 at The Epstein Theatre. Oh, and it's free.

As well as the bands playing in Brians Bar, Freakbeat Cinema will be screening cult gang flick The Warriors in the theatre. Always a winner.
